  1. Hi,

I haven’t tested the Vitesse Pharos, but I’ve just had a look at the specification and it looks like reasonable value for money. The Eskute Wayfarer is also an excellent step-through electric bike, it costs a bit more but has a really good spec for the price. Here is the link to the Eskute website.

  2. You’re welcome – there’s more information and reviews on my blog – ebikechoices.com

  3. I agree, the Cube is definitely a better looking bike. I should have the update live within the next couple of weeks.

    Cheers,
    Tony

  4. The Cube Reaction is a very good bike for the price, I will be updating this article shortly to include in-stock 2021 models. I have done a full review of the Cube on my other website – here is the link to the review.

    Cheers,
    Tony

  6. Thanks for sharing. My own personal e-bike uses the Shimano Steps motor and it’s really efficient, especially if you use ‘eco’ mode a lot of the time. I’ve managed nearly 100 miles out of one charge with the 504Wh battery.

  7. Halfords website don’t list a specific Carrera Crossfire E stand. It’s a direct mount type, there is one listed on their website – here is the link.

  8. Hi Rob,

The Suntour HESC motor is designed for regular QR dropouts. The only hub motor that I’m aware of that supports 148mm x 12mm thru axles is the OZO from France – Here is a link to the product page.

    Cheers,
    Tony

  9. Hi Steve,

When I used to custom-build e-bikes, a lot of my customers were returning to cycling after an illness or long-term injury. Choosing the right e-bike is important if this is the case as electric bikes vary greatly in the way they produce power, their weight and frame design.

Some riders may have trouble getting their leg over a regular framed bike, whether that is due to an injury or just old age – with low-step frames you do not have a top tube, so mounting / dismounting the bike is a lot easier.

The legal limit for power (in the UK) is 250w, but there is a big difference in the amount of torque (rotational force) these electric motors produce. A typical 250w rear hub motor will produce in the region of 30-40Nm (Newton-metres) of torque, whereas a good mid-drive system like the Bosch CX Performance-Line motor will produce around 75Nm and the Brose-S motor as much as 90Nm.

If you suffer from joint problems, particularly the knee or are limited to the amount of exertion you can do due to a heart condition – a higher torque mid-drive motor is going to make climbing hills much easier, when compared to a hub motor (even though the power output in watts is the same).

I hope this answers your question, if you need any more advice, please let me know.

    All the best,
    Tony
